Creating a Food Culture
Currently Sri Lanka’s food culture is devoid of nutrition. Rice makes up our main meal. The main component in rice is carbohydrate. Consumption of excess of carbohydrate contributes to a lack of productivity & lethargy, obesity, diabetes, blood pressure & similar ailments and heart disease. As a result of rice consumption, Sri Lankans face health issues.
The Mothers Movement believes that the future challenges can be overcome by adjusting our food culture and replacing carbohydrates with proteins, vitamins, minerals. In order to do this, given that Sri Lanka is an island surrounded by sea, with fish that provide proteins, the option of seaweed providing the much needed proteins, minerals & vitamins is also readily available.
To change Sri Lanka’s food culture, there is need to create the social awareness & build confidence in the people that the ills surrounding the present food culture can be replaced with readily available alternatives. The Mothers Movement aspires to spearhead this change.
